Longtime Community Bank Looks to Future by Updating Brand

Friday, January 25, 2019/Categories: Bank News

Even as it embarks on its 135th year as a local independent community bank, Andover Bank is focusing hard on the future with plans for a facelift that should make it look better than ever.

On Feb. 4, the venerable financial institution will give its image a modern sheen by introducing a flurry of brand updates, including a new logo, website and signage.

The bank, which serves northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania, is putting the finishing touches on an 18-month rebranding process designed to refresh its look while renewing its legacy.

“We’re a rarity in our service area,” says Steve Varckette, President and CEO. “A true community bank that devotes 100 percent of our time and attention to local individuals, families and businesses. That’s how it’s always been. This brand update is our way of recommitting to our community.”

More than 50 years old, Andover Bank’s current logo was ripe for an overhaul. Months of research, brand development and testing culminated in not just a new logo, but also a new look for every aspect of how the bank presents itself to the community.

New website with dot-bank domain

Aside from the logo and signage, Feb. 4 also marks the introduction of a new website. It will feature easier navigation, broader content and responsive web design to assure the best possible experience on any type of device—smartphone, tablet or computer.

Andover Bank also invested in switching from a dot-com to a dot-bank domain. On Feb. 4, the bank’s two current URLs—www.andoverbankohio.com and www.andoverbankpa.com—will be retired and replaced by www.andover.bank.

The URL change simplifies Andover Bank’s web address, while also promising customers greater security.

Many banks are switching to a dot-bank domain because it’s exclusive to financial institutions and requires rigorous vetting to obtain. Considered an online stamp of trust, the dot-bank domain will assure customers they’re actually on Andover Bank’s website and not a copycat set up by cybercriminals.

Updates to mobile and online banking

The upcoming brand update also includes a new mobile banking app, which will be available for download via the App Store and Google Play on Feb. 4.

Online banking will participate in the refresh, too—a new look for the personal version of the service; all new features and functionality for the business version.

“Andover Bank has been a community mainstay for many, many years, but we’ve never been content to stay still,” says Craig Cumberworth, Senior Vice President of Retail Banking. “These changes to our brand will better reflect who we are while providing customers a better banking experience.”
